Bird Agency is a support department of the college, which is managed by the Principal and Artistic Director. There are three permanent agents within the Agency working to provide students with professional opportunities within the industry. The Agency has an outstanding success record with many graduating students winning leading roles both nationally and internationally in musical theatre, commercial dance, film, and TV industries.
It represents all students in negotiations with production companies with regards to fees, working conditions and contracts. The Agency also provides students with advice on general finance, income tax, national insurance, accommodation, and travel. Guidance is given in relation to personal presentation for auditions, professional etiquette, photos, CVs, and the suitability of specific auditions. Regular communication is maintained will all agency clients.
The Agents also deliver invaluable weekly employment skill sessions throughout the 3 years of training, that equip its clients with the necessary skills needed to make the important transition from professional student to working professional artist as smoothly as possible.
Upon successful completion of the training, students may continue to be represented by Bird Agency, either solely or in addition to other agencies, but only on condition that the client keeps in regular contact with the Agency.
Our Agents
Carly
Carly trained at Bird College graduating in 1999 and has worked in theatre for over 20 years, she enjoyed a career as a performer in musical theatre in the West End, touring the UK and internationally, She also worked in Cabaret and Opera and later in her career made the transition into working as a choreographer and movement director on a number of productions, these roles have enabled Carly to have great working relationships with many casting directors and creatives in the theatre industry. Alongside her performing career Carly taught at many of the UK’s leading vocational colleges and was Vice Principal at The MTA from 2009-2015. She joined Bird Agency in 2016 and has loved the career transition to talent management. Having been a performer, Carly understands how important the support of an agent is and enjoys bringing this approach to aid the Bird College students & clients to understand the industry and be able to reach their potential.
Cleo
Cleo is a Bird College graduate who, in her graduating year, was offered an Agent’s Assistant position at Apollo Artist Management. Cleo was the first employee there and helped grow the business, working her way up to Associate Agent role in 2019. During her time at Apollo, Cleo worked closely with her colleagues and the clients to support their achievements and career goals. Cleo has worked with and on contracts for productions such as Hamilton (West End), Les Misérables (West End, UK & International Tour and Concert), Everybody’s Talking About Jamie (West End), Cats (International Tour), Jesus Christ Superstar (West End), Hairspray (West End), Mamma Mia (West End), Priscilla Queen of the Desert (UK Tour) amongst many others, including commercials for brands including British Airways, The FA, Mentos & Waitrose. Cleo was delighted to be offered a return to Bird College in the capacity of an Agent. Her experiences as both a graduate and a professional agent will aid Bird College students and clients to reach their full potential within the performing arts and related industries.
Tanya
Tanya trained at Bird College and graduated in 2000. She went on to pursue a successful career in the industry for 20 years working in both Theatre and Television. Tanya has performed in the Westend and on UK Tours, such as the original cast of We Will Rock You, Starlight Express, Mary Poppins, Kiss Me Kate, Mamma Mia, Footloose, 42nd Street & Sunset Boulevard. Tanya has also taught at various leading vocational colleges across the country. Alongside her performing career Tanya began managing the agency over a decade ago and has enjoyed watching the successes and achievements of the clients during this time. She has assisted them in gaining prestigious contracts across all aspects of the industry. Having spent so many years performing in the industry Tanya understands how important it is to have a great client/agent relationship. She is passionate about representing the students of Bird College & clients and offering the support and guidance necessary to enable them to enter the industry with the confidence, skill and knowledge to pursue their dreams.
