On Track with the LSO

The Music Service has had a long-standing partnership with LSO OnTrack – the education branch of the LSO, based at LSO St Luke’s near Old Street. The past few years have seen a steady development of this partnership and the benefits have been felt by young people right across the Borough.

The joint projects have included:

The Nimrod Orchestra

This involves eight young members of the Music Service ensembles performing with members of the LSO for the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

‘Take A Bow’

Fifteen of our younger string players performed on violins, violas and cellos, with the LSO, in a project culminating in a joint concert at LSO St Luke’s.

Maxwell-Davies Fanfare Project

Eight woodwind and brass players from the Intermediate Band and Concert Orchestra performed at the Barbican in a concert for the Queen.

Next Generation

Music Service members were selected to benefit from a four year entitlement to improvisation workshops throughout the year, performing in an annual concert at the Barbican.

CPD for KS2 Teachers

Bird College has been selected as one of three LSO Training Centres in London, and caters for KS2 teachers south of the river. Both the Assistant Principal (Music Service) and the Schools Manager (Music Service) are tutors on the CPD course.
